Build Immunity with Yummy Rasa Tea

Winter weather comes and goes all season long here in Atlanta, GA, but the cold and flu season stays with us no matter how the weather is behaving!

Getting sick brings it's own kind of stress and anxiety with it - upsetting our plans, having to reschedule, being unable to take care of day to day "stuff" and feeling like we are falling behind, not to mention just feeling physically rotten.

So I do as many things as possible to support my immunity and vitality (referred to in Ayurveda as ojas) to stay healthy and strong, prevent getting sick, and just in case I do catch a cootie, I won't feel quite as bad and can recover more quickly.

This tri-doshic Rasa Tea supports all three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha) and builds ojas, along with supporting the nervous system, the plasma (rasa), and the male and female reproductive system.

It's got a ton of health benefits plus an interesting flavor profile with this combination of tri-doshic herbs and spices, which you can get at most bulk herb sections of the market, health food stores, or in the spice aisle. And of course you can order ingredients online, preferably from an organic source like Banyan Botanicals or Mountain Rose Herbs.

Rasa Tea Recipe*

  • 1 quart water

  • 1 Tbsp fenugreek seeds

  • 1 Tbsp fennel seeds

  • 1 Tbsp dried peppermint or marshmallow root (I like a combo of both)

  • 1 tsp of licorice root, chopped or powdered

  • 1 thin sliced fresh ginger root

  • 1 tsp – 1 Tbsp whole flax seeds per cup (optional – will thicken the tea if use ground flax)

Steps To Make Rasa Tea

  1. Boil water in a medium stainless steel pot. Put all the herbs in a one-quart heat-proof glass mason jar. Pour the water over the herbs and steep for 30 minutes or more.

  2. Before serving, strain the tea. Place flax seeds in your cup before pouring the tea into it. This supports Omega 3-rich, immune boosting, mood-soothing. You can eat the soaked seeds with a spoon when you get to the bottom of your drink.

  3. Drink 1-2 cups per day, the larger amount if you are in dry conditions.
