Create a Pre-Stress Plan with Daily Self Care

daily self care builds stress tolerance

Stress - it's like death and taxes right?

It's just a reality of modern life.

But wait, we CAN do simple things each day to prevent stress from becoming an unwelcome squatter that infests our mind and body with anxiety, tension and illness.

We can build inner resilience - so that when stressful stuff comes up, it doesn't infiltrate our whole being.

It affects us for sure.

BUT we manage the stress, it doesn't manage us.

HOW you ask?

We fortify our bodies, minds and spirits before stress strikes, with our day to day habits.

I feel most stressed out when I put my own self care practices second to life's other responsibilities.

That depletes me, so I have less energy to give my other commitments, plus I get irritable, forgetful, make odd mistakes, and tend not to do my best work or feel all that great either.

Do you know what you need to do for yourself each day to make sure you are well cared for so stress isn't as bothersome and won't overwhelm you?

*** Wait - stop a moment, grab pen and paper or open a doc on your device.

Now make note of what you regularly do, or can do consistently, to make sure you're:

  • well rested - consistently getting adequate sleep on a regular schedule

  • well fed - preparing nutritious, delicious, fresh foods for most of your meals

  • allowed to relax and refresh - 100% unplugged down time to connect with your people, play, ponder, dream, explore

  • mentally/emotionally fortified for whatever life dishes out - repeating the practices that build your resilience and calm your mind, those that bring you back to your natural calm, serene state

Need some ideas? Here's my list...

Getting my exercise & meditation into my morning routine ensures it happens nearly every day. Those practices sharpen my mental focus, keep my physically fit, plus keep me emotionally resilient and grounded.

Making sure I schedule rest, fun and play - with friends and by myself - helps me to experience joy, focus on gratitude, experience laughter and connection, explore and experience new things and favorite places, plus it ensures I don't overwork or burn out.

Allow time enough to shop for and prepare fresh, healthy meals that fuel my body and help me stay mentally and physically healthy and strong.

Keeping a consistent bedtime & wake time, with evening & morning routines that support good sleep hygiene ensure I have the energy & stamina to tackle whatever comes my way.

Simple daily self care routines can make a huge impact on our total wellbeing. If you want to make a big shift in your state of wellness, I encourage you to begin with self care.
